Jill Rubery

Jill Rubery is Professor of Comparative Employment Systems and Director of the European Work and Employment Research Centre at the Manchester School of Management, UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology). She has co-ordinated the European Commission's expert group on gender and employment from 1991 to 1996 and again since 1998. Her research has focused on inter-disciplinary comparative research on employment systems, including consideration of wage structures and payment systems, working time arrangements and welfare systems. She is currently engaged in research on the management of employment change in internal labour markets, on European comparative research on new forms of work and working time in services and is participating in a major UK programme into the future of work. She has been actively involved in policy related work for the European Commission, including the preparation of a report on equal opportunities as a productive factor. She has also been working on a number of projects with the ILO, including most recently preparing a paper on job quality in the context of the development for new technologies.
